Major Yoga Disciplines
Sivananda Vedanta is one of
several major international yoga organizations that teach
traditional yoga, emphasizing hatha yoga (the poses commonly
associated with yoga) as a preparation for meditation and
spiritual development. Beginners' classes are very gentle.

Satchidananda Ashram is a
second major international yoga organization, also emphasizing

Iyengar Yoga was developed by
B.K.S. Iyengar who, at 80, continues to teach in Pune, India.
The tradition emphasizes precise alignment, facilitated with

Ashtanga Yoga This yoga style
uses a vigorous, fast-paced series of sequential postures, of
increasing difficulty, that allow students to work at their

Kundahlini Yoga A vigorous
system of yoga founded by Yogi Bhajan that incorporates
postures, dynamic breathing techniques, chanting and
meditation with the goal of awakening the individual's
